Fiber optics versus wireless bridges for security systems
Short answer
Fiber is normally preferred for permanent high-bandwidth backbones because it supports long distances and resists electrical interference. Point-to-point wireless can be effective when trenching or pathways are impractical, but it requires clear line of sight, proper mounting, power and ongoing alignment and health monitoring.
Choose fiber when
The pathway is available, uptime is critical, bandwidth must scale or buildings need electrical isolation.
Choose wireless when
A physical pathway is disproportionately expensive or disruptive and a stable, obstruction-free link can be engineered.
Do not skip network design
Either transport still needs managed switching, segmentation, surge strategy, power backup, documentation and capacity planning.
